Safe, homemade citrus ant killer can be made in a standard kitchen blender. Oils found in the peels of lemons, limes, oranges and other citrus fruits kill ants and creates a repellent. Citrus oil also acts as a disinfectant by killing the fungi that are a major food source for ants. Ants that are able to avoid direct contact with the citrus ant killer are still driven away by the food shortage and all the newly generated boundaries. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Add hot water and citrus peels to a blender and remove the lid or center vent in the lid. Cover the opening with a folded kitchen towel before blending the ingredients on high for a solid two minutes.
2. Cover the blender and leave it to sit at room temperature for 72 hours. Pour the citrus ant killer through a fine mesh strainer into a container with a pour spout. A small amount of liquid dish soap increases the viscosity of the spray, causing it to stick where it is applied.
3. Pour the citrus ant killer into a spray bottle with an adjustable nozzle. Spray streams of the ant killer into mounds to kill the ants and to create repellent barriers. Twist the nozzle to spray a moderate mist of the ant killer directly onto lines of ants.
