Turn Two Small Rugs Into One Large

Turning two rugs into one larger rug is an easy process.

Rugs can add a new element to any room design. A rug can separate a sitting area or provide a pop of color to an otherwise dim room. When shopping for a rug, you will find that large area rugs can be quite expensive. A less expensive option is to purchase two smaller rugs and then create the illusion they are one solid rug. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Purchase two rugs that are similar in design or color. This will allow the two to blend more easily. Find rugs with no trim around the edges.

2. Place rubber floor grip mats under the area you wish to position the rugs.

3. Place the two rugs on the floor, flush against one another. The grip mats will hold the rugs in place, preventing them from separation.

4. Sew the two rugs together for a more permanent option. Thread an upholstery needle with a thick upholstery thread that matches the color of the rugs. Push the thread up through the bottom of one rug then down through the opposite rug. Continue until you have stitched the two together, and then position the new creation in place on the floor.
