Technical Schools In New Orleans

The Gulf Coast Aviation School trains students interested in becoming personal pilots.


Technical education provides coursework for students interested in receiving training in a technical or specialized field. In New Orleans, students can attend a community college, a technical college or other technical institutions. Medical and health jobs, for instance, are growing in Louisiana, and a technical education provides a way for students to quickly enter an in-demand job market.


Delgado Community College


At Delgado Community College, students can take classes in technical education online or on campus. Delgado says that 25 percent of its students take online classes. The school has a nursing school that offers both a practical and a registered nursing degree and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Students who complete the registered nurse program will receive an associate degree in nursing. In addition to nursing, Delgado Community College offers other programs, such as medical coding, radiation therapy, veterinary technology, massage, pharmacy technician, civil construction, computer networking, architecture and more. Delgado also offers sports programs in baseball and men's and women's basketball.

Louisiana Technical College, Sidney N. Collier Campus


The Louisiana Technical College aims to prepare adults for a variety of technical fields that provide good pay for entry-level positions. The college has a number of regional centers, and students in New Orleans can attend the Sidney N. Collier campus. The Louisiana Technical College offers the following programs: associate of applied science, technical diploma certificate of technical studies and technical competency area. Some of the subjects offered include accounting, automotive technology, cabinet and furniture construction, correctional security officer, computer specialist, electrician, graphics, masonry, medical assistant and nurse assistant.

Gulf Coast Aviation


With campuses in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Gulf Coast Aviation offers a flight training program for students interested in becoming pilots. Gulf Coast Aviation offers several programs that vary in price from $386 to over $24,000. Students interested in becoming a private pilot, for instance, will pay almost $8,000 for training. Gulf Coast Aviation says that 90 percent of its students pass their courses after taking them only once. Also, they say that students enrolled in their program require 20 fewer hours of training than the national average for flight training.
