Cook Scallops

Fresh scallops should smell like the sea.

Scallops are a wonderful type of shellfish that can be easily enjoyed when cooked properly. Scallops provide a good source of protein in addition to being rich in vitamins and minerals. The goal is to ensure that they are indeed fresh and have not spoiled. The way to know if the scallops are bad is if they smell bad, and do not smell like the sea. Scallops do not need a lot of time to cook; if they cook too long they risk the chance of becoming rubbery. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Heat the cooking pan to a medium setting for queen scallops. To fry them, put them in oil or garlic butter, and when they turn a solid white color they are done. Remember the goal is to not overcook them or they will end up becoming rubbery and tough to chew.

2. Cook bay scallops in a separate pan as they usually excrete a whitish fluid while they are being cooked.

3. Heat the pan as high as you are able to grill or broil scallops. The outside will brown quickly and the inside will not be overcooked.

4. Add scallops at the end of the cooking time if you are adding them to another dish, since the scallops do not need to be cooked for very long.
