Conduct A Virtual Field Trip

Kids on virtual field trip

Virtual field trips are fun and interactive. They provide a way for you to explore things with your kids that are being taught to them in a more in-depth and hands-on way. Use the handy tips below to make your next virtual field trip even more exciting. You will be able to gain more from them, if you know navigate.

Instructions

1. Virtual field trips are powerful study aids. They work best when used with material that you are currently teaching your children to help reinforce lesson plans in all subject areas. They make what you are teaching come to life, especially when visiting places that you will never be able to actually see in person.

2. Remember that using virtual field trips exposes your child to the Internet. It is strongly advised that you provide as much supervision as possible. Treat this field trip as you would a traditional field trip, just like being a chaperone.

3. Plan ahead for your child's virtual field trip by making sure they are learning a lesson to prepare them before going online. Preview the site that hosts the virtual field trip before you let your child on to it. Check links up to three clicks away to be sure the content is safe.

4. It would help to have a list of tasks that you want your child to complete during the virtual field trip. Also help your child prepare a notebook outlining information that he or she learned during the field trip by gathering images to identify the places he or she visited, and including thoughtful text about the field trip.

5. To get the most of the virtual field trip, follow through with an assessment (either a review sheet or quiz) to see how much information your child learned while taking the virtual field trip. This will help you decide if future virtual field trips will be of interest to your child.
