Find a Wholesale Distributor for Bakery Supplies
Whether you're starting your own bakery or expanding operations, wholesale suppliers can be key to growing your business. Developing a relationship with one or several wholesalers will help reduce costs and increase the quality of your baked goods. Although it may seem simple to find a wholesale supplier, putting in extra effort by talking to local competitors and comparing costs with your business plan will set a strong foundation for the future of your business.
Instructions
Research
1. Talk to local bakery owners and inquire about which wholesale suppliers they use. Ask for a direct contact at the supply company and detailed information about their experience. How was the customer service? How long have they used the supplier? Have they used suppliers they didn't like in the past? Use this information to compile a list of local suppliers.
2. Look online for wholesale bakery suppliers. These can be additional local sources or Internet-based national companies capable of meeting your business needs. Try searching for "wholesale bakery supplies" and "wholesale bakery supplies in (your area)." Add these to your list.
3. Compare the list of bakery wholesalers with your business needs. Some suppliers will have pricing and inventory information online, others you'll have to call directly. Consider using more than one supplier to keep costs down. Narrow the list to the best candidates.
4. Develop a list of key questions to consider when choosing a supplier. How quickly and on what kind of schedule can they deliver supplies? How does the cost compare to your current supplier or, how do the costs fit into your business plan? As your business grows, will the supplier be able to handle larger orders? If your business shrinks, will you incur penalties for reducing order size?
5. Contact sales representatives at your top wholesale candidates and go through your list of questions with them over the phone or via email.
