Cook Rice Indian Style

Indian basmati rice can be mixed with numerous flavors.


Indian style basmati rice is a flavorful dish made from the rice cultivar of the same name. Knowing prepare this traditional Indian starch product gives you the ability to introduce it as a base for a wide array of Far East flavors from curried treats to traditional basmati and dal. Using minimal ingredients and adjustments to how you normally prepare rice you can present an authentic Indian treat or side dish with your next dinner.


Instructions


1. Pour the uncooked rice into the metal strainer. Hold it under cool, running water for 5 minutes to rinse away the glutenous water that results from it. This process makes a difference in how the rice tastes once it is prepared.


2. Add two cups of water to the stockpot. Add 1 tbsp. of rice bran oil. Bring the water to a rolling boil.


3. Add the uncooked, strained rice to the rolling, boiling water. Cover it and let it cook for 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to a simmer and remove the lid.


4. Add the vinegar and onion to the simmering pot of rice. Cover the pot and allow it to simmer for 30 minutes.
