European Culinary Schools

European culinary schools typically specialize in either Italian or French cooking.

Both serious students of the culinary arts, and those with only a casual interest in gaining skills with Italian or French cooking, often benefit by attending a culinary school in Europe. Casual students can take day- or week-long classes in scenic, historic European cities, while serious students can take two-year classes in world-renowned professional institutes.

Le Cordon Bleu Paris

The Paris branch of Le Cordon Bleu, the original location of the well-renowned culinary school, serves as a model for the academy's seven other locations, and still maintains its own coveted reputation for producing skilled chefs. Students can earn their diploma and certificate in Culinary Arts, "Le Grand Diplôme de Le Cordon Bleu," a Masters or Bachelors in Hospitality Management, or a Masters in Gastronomy.

Le Cordon Bleu London

Le Cordon Bleu London follows the same general French culinary program available in the Paris location, but earned its own reputation as a culinary school of exceptional quality. Areas of study include two basic programs--Le Cordon Bleu Cuisine Diploma and Le Cordon Bleu Patisserie Diploma--and one program combining the two basics--Le Cordon Bleu Grand Diplôme.

International Cooking School of Italian Food and Wine

The International Cooking School of Italian Food and Wine offers high quality vacation cooking classes. The students begin class in Bologna's outdoor market, where instructors select the best quality foods, before moving the small classes to a Renaissance palace located in Bologna, Italy. Instructors give cooking directions in English, but teach only Italian cooking. Courses range from six to seven days in length.

The Bertinet Kitchen Cookery School

The Bertinet Kitchen opened in 2005 in the center of historic Bath, England. Richard Bertinet, the school's owner and founder, runs the culinary school with the purpose of offering both fun courses and specialized courses on baking bread. Courses run from one day to one week in length, depending on subject matter, and include topics like Indian entertaining, croissants, classic patisserie, French country cooking, sauces, knife skills, and preserves, among others.

Padstow Seafood School

The Padstow's Seafood School, in Cornwall, England, specializes solely in seafood, shellfish and related cooking. Located in Padstow near the seaside, the culinary school mostly offers one-day, relaxed classes in subjects like "Original Fish and Shellfish Cookery," "Fish Market," "Cooking from Mediterranean Escapes" and "Italian Fish Cookery." Rich Stein and Jill Stein run the school and associated restaurants.

Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland

The Culinary Arts Academy in Switzerland instructs its students in both traditional and modern world cuisine and offers two primary degrees: the Advanced Certificate in Culinary Arts and the Swiss Higher Diploma in Culinary Arts. As a member of the C sar Ritz Colleges of Switzerland, this academy offers a traditional culinary arts school experience, with program completion over a period of one or two years, rather than one or two days.
