How Far Away Should Curtains Be From Baseboard Heaters

Baseboard heaters are a common form of electric heating in homes and businesses. Safety is a huge concern where draperies and a heat source are in close proximity. Does this Spark an idea?

Baseboard heaters come in portable models as well as those that are directly wired.


Prevention/Solution


Draperies that hang from floor to ceiling near the baseboard heater should have a minimum clearance of 1 inch from the ceiling and 1 inch from the floor to permit air circulation, according to Inspectapedia.com. Full-length drapes must hang at least 3 inches away from the front of the heater including the nearest drape fold.


Warning


Do not allow draperies/curtains to touch the heater. Short drapes or curtains need a minimum of 8 inches from bottom of fabric to top of heater.


Considerations


When planning window treatments, take into account the placement of your baseboard heaters Curtain rods that project further out from the wall than the norm are available. Or consider using top treatments or Roman shades instead of long panels.
