What Foods Cause High Levels Of Iron

Iron is used by the body to oxygenate the blood through hemoglobin. A deficiency in iron can lead to a condition called anemia. When this takes place, the body can become weak, pale, lethargic and you can also suffer from chest pains and a shortness of breath. To keep your iron levels high, there are certain foods that can be eaten.


Meats


Meats are already known for their high protein content. They are also high in iron. Some specific meats include beef, turkey, lamb, chicken and pork.


Fish


Fish is a lean source of protein and it is also high in iron. Some examples are salmon, tuna, cod, haddock and also shellfish.


Grains


There are some grains that are fortified with iron. These include pasta, oatmeal, rice and various cereals.


Geens


Leafy green vegetables have an array of vitamins and minerals in them. They also have high amounts of iron. Some examples are baby spinach, cabbage, kale, parsley and broccoli.


Seeds and Nuts


In addition to having healthy fats, nuts and seeds also have a high amount of iron. Some of these include almonds, sesame seeds, walnuts and sunflower seeds.


Beans


Beans are high in fiber and high in iron. Some examples are soy beans, lentils, chick peas, kidney beans and lima beans.
