Market Fruits & Vegetables In The Workplace

Fresh fruit has health benefits.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), every adult should consume at least five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day, although many people fall far below that mark. If you are selling or simply promoting how healthy fruits and vegetables are to your colleagues, consider the following ideas to encourage to people get more than just an apple a day.

Instructions

1. Check with your human resources department before you do any marketing, selling or promoting to ensure that you're within the company's guidelines. If you have to push your cause, share information on the health benefits of eating fruits and veggies with your HR representative. Likewise, make sure the fruits and vegetables you market are clean and wrapped, when possible.

2. Make it colorful. If you have a product cart or are simply sharing your fruits and vegetables with others, mix it up so your colleagues don't see the same red apples and green grapes day in and out. Experiment with fruits such as kiwi, clementines and blackberries and vegetables such as squash and different types of lettuce. The more colorful and appealing your selection, the more others will want to sink their teeth into it.

3. Educate your colleagues. For each banana you sell or share with someone else, include a small flier touting its benefits, including the importance of potassium for your muscles. For each bag of spinach, let the consumer know he is getting all of his daily Vitamin A in one low-calorie spot. When people are better informed, they're more likely to make better choices.

4. Mix and match. If your workplace has a kitchen facility, make a colorful salad that features fruits and vegetables or a soup that has seven or eight different veggies. Some people won't eat a plain cucumber, but mixed into a salad with pears, strawberries and a little raspberry dressing, it might taste a lot better.

5. Keep the prices down if you're selling the fruits and vegetables. Produce costs at the grocery store can be daunting; if you offer a good price, you're more likely to be a hit in the workplace.
