Make a quick and easy elephant truck for a child to wear.
There might be a few occasions in a child's life when he needs to dress the part of an elephant. Perhaps he is in a jungle play at school, or wants to be an elephant for Halloween. An elephant trunk can be easily made with some items commonly found around the house.
Instructions
1. A carboard tube will be the elephant's trunk.
Wrap a piece of white or gray paper around a cardboard tube and glue in place. A paper towel tube can be used for a shorter trunk; a wrapping paper tube makes a long one.
2. Mark lines on the cardboard tube to divide it into thirds.
3. Fold the tube gently at each of the cut lines, without making a sharp crease. Use scissors to cut the tube along the lines, being careful not to cut all the way through. The tube will now bend at the cuts.
4. Lay the tube on a flat surface with the uncut side on top. Punch two holes in one end of the tube. The holes should be directly across from one another, on either side of the uncut portion.
5. Tie a piece of ribbon in each hole. Make the ribbon long enough so that it will tie behind the head of the wearer.
6. Draw lines on the tube with a black marker to resemble the wrinkles of an elephant's trunk.
7. Tie the ribbons around the head, with the uncut portion facing up. The slits in the tube will allow the trunk to move instead of being stiff.
