There are a number of prominent nursing schools in New York City, offering you a chance to study in one of the most in-demand job fields. Schools offering a nursing major in New York traditionally give students a variety of degree options and also provide opportunities for advanced study beyond the baccalaureate degree.
Columbia University
U.S. News & World Report ranked Columbia's School of Nursing the No. 19 in the nation when it last ranked nursing programs in 2007. Columbia offers an accelerated program that combines earning the Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in nursing (MSN) degrees into one plan of study. The MSN program has 10 areas of concentration, including women's health, gerontology, midwifery, anesthesia and neonatal nursing. The school also offers sub-specialties in the areas of end-of-life care, HIV/AIDS, addictive behavior, genetics and oncology. Columbia offers both a Ph.D. and the DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) degree. Joint degrees are also possible in the areas of public health and business administration.

New York University
New York University's Division of Nursing was ranked No. 26 in the nation by U.S. News in 2007. Like the Columbia program, NYU's offers a major in nursing at the undergraduate level. The bachelor's degree program has been successful in preparing students for licensing exams, boasting a pass rate of better than 90 percent. Students wanting to go beyond the bachelor's degree can pursue the MSN or a Ph.D. in the field of Research Theory and Development. The Doctor of Nursing Practice is also offered at NYU. NYU's nursing school sponsors various research centers, such as the the Center for Continuing Education in Nursing and the Center for Drug Abuse and HIV Research.

Pace University
The Pace University Lienhard School of Nursing was ranked No. 63 nationally by U.S. News in 2007. The nursing major at Pace can be pursued individually or jointly with other degrees, including a master's. Lienhard offers a Master of Science and a certificate of advanced graduate study in its Family Nurse Practitioner program and awards a Master of Arts in Nursing Education. The school also offers the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
