Wellness Grants For Schools

Wellness grants promote physical and mental health in schools.


Wellness is the achieving the right balance between physical and mental health. It includes nutrition, regular exercise, preventative health and a healthy self-esteem. Many schools today encourage wellness as an important part of learning and living. Each year, private and governmental sources award millions of dollars in grants to help schools build wellness into the curriculum.


Team Nutrition Training Grants


The U.S. Department of Agriculture awards its Team Nutrition Training Grants For Healthy School Meals to state agencies. The grants are part of the USDA's Strategic Plan for Training and Technical Assistance with nutrition requirements and dietary guidelines for school meals. They fund training and technical assistance in child nutrition, food service and education.

Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant


Safe Schools/Healthy Students grants complements wellness with a safe learning environment. Administered by the U.S. Department of Education, the grants support mental health, law enforcement, a juvenile justice system and social services promoting disciplined and drug-free schools. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Grant


The nonprofit Robert Wood Johnson Foundation awards grants to schools that fight obesity in children by promoting health eating and physical education. The grants are intended to change policies, environments and social norms relative to schools and childhood obesity. They do not fund programs that are only informational or educational. Neither do they fund research on childhood obesity .

Head Start Body Start Grant


The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance awards grants of up to $5,000 to Head Start centers for improving outdoor play spaces and encouraging physical activity. Application requirements are available on its website.
