Store Rice and Beans for Long Shelf Storage Life
Storage is an issue when you buy bulk foods or when buying for a special occasion. Some foods require you to use them right away, while you can store others for a long time. Storing food properly saves money and time. You can store rice and beans for a long shelf life if you use the correct procedure. When you have a need for this food, it is available in your home without leaving for the store. Beans stay fresh for at least one year while rice can have a long life of at least two years. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Open the rice and bean bags. The plastic that houses the food is a thin material that is not airtight.
2. Pour the food into airtight containers. Several companies provide airtight lids and plastic containers to seal food. Place the beans in a separate holder from the rice.
3. Place the food in the far corner of a food pantry, cupboard or cabinet. Store the rice and beans in a dark, cool and dry location. Keep the containers away from direct light when preparing meals. Also, put it away as soon as you take the food out for the meal.
