Multnomah Village is a neighborhood in southwest Portland, Oregon with a quaint, artsy flair. Bisected by two busy streets, Capitol Highway and Multnomah Boulevard, it still manages to be pedestrian-friendly. The roads through Multnomah Village are somewhat hilly, adding to the ambiance, and the area is served by the city TriMet bus line. A variety of restaurants in the area serve locally grown, locally produced or organic food.
Down to Earth Cafe
Visit Down to Earth Cafe for a number of vegan or vegetarian offerings including smoothies and vegetable drinks. Portland's locally famous Stumptown coffee is also available. Menu options include panini sandwiches, grilled Gardenburgers and a Teriyaki tofu sandwich. The cafe also specializes in Persian cuisine on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. You can get breakfast until noon during the week.
Grand Central Bakery
Try the Multnomah Village branch of Grand Central Bakery for soup, sandwiches and salads. Salad greens and other soup and sandwich ingredients from local farmers are on hand in season, and the soup is made from scratch. The bakery features artisan breads baked on-site. The interior of the Multnomah Village shop has bay windows, sky lights and an outdoor deck.
Otto and Anita's Schnitzel House
Stop in at Otto and Anita's Schnitzel House for authentic Bavarian food and pastries including Weinerschnitzel from pork loin or chicken. There is an extensive menu with sandwiches and salads in addition to dinner entrees with potatoes, sauerkraut and vegetables. You can order an authentic, freshly baked Bavarian pretzel, or cheesecake made with Oregon Marionberries. They have a banquet room that seats up to 40 guests as well for special occasions.
Fat City Cafe
Visit Fat City Cafe for a taste of old-fashioned diner ambiance and food. In 2008 it was chosen the "Best Place for a Hangover Brunch" in Portland. Decor includes license plates on the walls, and the menu includes old-fashioned greasy-spoon hamburgers and malts. The cinnamon rolls have been popular since they were introduced when the cafe opened in 1974. Another popular item is the Fat City biscuits. You can even order spam.
Lucky Labrador Public House
Taste authentic Portland brewed beer at the Lucky Labrador Public House. The landmark building was built in 1925 and features high ceilings. The pub serves drought ale from its own Lucky Lab brewery in Portland as well as salads and a variety of pizza. Vegetarian and vegan options are available in addition to the regular meat and cheese choices for pizza. There are some local Northwest touches as well, like pizza with spinach and hazelnuts.
