1. Take the Foundation/Basic Food Hygiene Certificate course that will give you a certificate that most employers prefer. You can take this certificate course at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.


2. Apply as an assistant or trainee with a master butcher. Choose a shop that closely mirrors what kind of butcher shop you would like to work in. Prior retail experience may be helpful.


3. You could become a butcher through an Apprenticeship scheme. Check on available positions in your local area.


4. Expect to be paid as a beginning butcher in the UK about £12,000 a year. With more experience, you could earn around £13,000 to £19,000 or more a year. As a manager of a shop or department, your salary could reach around £30,000.
