Chia Seeds & Depression

The National Institute of Mental Health states that depression is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. for people ages 15 to 44. Consequently, new medications and treatments are constantly being used to help alleviate its symptoms.


What is Depression?

Naturally occurring chia seeds are quickly becoming very popular in health food stores across the country. The seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids as well as amino acids.


Chia Seeds and Depression


Research has shown that the omega-3 fatty acids found in chia seeds are beneficial for mood disorders including depression. Chia seeds have helped some people alleviate the symptoms of depression significantly.

Healthy Fuel Europe states that 1 to 4 tablespoons daily of chia seeds will not only help with depression but also with digestion and hydration.

Chia seeds are an ancient food of the Aztecs and have been used in Mexico ever since. Although their effects on depression may take 3 to 4 weeks, great efficacy has been shown.
