Host A Vegan Cocktail Party

Vegan party food doesn't have to be plain celery sticks. Use a little imagination to develop a menu of appetizers and finger foods to satisfy vegans and non-vegans alike. Consider the source of any alcohol served. Many wines and beers are filter and fined with animal products or bones. Use the following instructions and resources to throw a successful, delicious and cruelty-free vegan cocktail party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Invite guests--vegans and non-vegans--a few weeks in advance. Give more notice during the holiday party season, as most people quickly fill their December weekends.

2. Develop a recipe and ingredient list. Use easy finger foods such as mini pizzas (vegan cheese, tomato sauce, and sliced baguette), hummus, stuffed phylo-dough pockets, veggies and luxurious dark chocolate.

3. Make up a signature drink for the party to serve from a large pitcher. This saves time bartending, and money on ingredients for a larger variety of mixed drinks. Serve vegan beer and wine if desired (see Resources).

4. Shop for ingredients. Ensure you have ample serving ware, party plates, napkins and cups.

5. Set out dishes, serving ware, decorative candles and flowers the day before.

6. Begin preparing food early on the day of your party, saving baked or heated items to just before the party starts.

7. Right before guests arrive, set out drinks, finalize the food, turn down the lights and turn on a little music in the background!
