Food Project Grants

Food project grants reduce hunger.


Grants for feeding the hungry are available from federal, state, and private foundation sources. Many foundations that fund human services projects will include food projects as part of their focus. To obtain a grant for food projects, an organization should first investigate programs that already exist in their community, such as food banks, soup kitchens and food pantries operated by local churches. Not only will this information be required on grant applications, but grantors favor organizations that collaborate with other local organizations.


The People's Garden


The People's Garden School Pilot Program is open to nonprofits, educational institutions, faith-based organizations and gardening organizations. The purpose of the grant is to establish community gardens at eligible high poverty schools in order to teach students about agricultural production and nutrition. The produce grown will be used to supplement schools, local food banks and student households. The outcomes anticipated include helping to meet the needs of low income families, increasing community self-reliance and creating innovative marketing for locally grown produce.


The Child and Adult Care Food Program


The Child and Adult Care Food Program provides formula grants to states to pass on to eligible organizations for starting and maintaining food programs for children in day care facilities, for after school programs in low income areas and for children in emergency shelters. Impaired adults and elderly individuals in day care facilities are also served by this grant. This grant reimburses providers based on the number of breakfasts, lunches, suppers and snacks which are served. Meals must meet United States Department of Agriculture standards.


Summer Food Service


This is a formula grant for nonprofit food programs that target low income children during the summer months and at other times when school lunches are not available. At least 50 percent of the children served must be eligible for free or reduced price school lunches. Persons with disabilities over age 18 who participate in approved school programs are also eligible. Meals are distributed regularly at established sites.


Foundation Grants


The Food Lion Charitable Foundation supports organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in its marketing region. Organizations must be operating a feeding program, have an active board of directors and provide financial information that proves long-term sustainability. As of 2010, ConAgra offers community impact grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 to grass-roots agencies that are using innovative strategies to address hunger in children. Grants are limited to states where ConAgra employees live and work and where at least 20 percent of children are food insecure.

Cookbooks can be found in just about every kitchen. Many people purchase their cookbooks or receive them as hand-me-downs from family and friends who no longer need them. Many people who enjoy cooking also have a collection of their own recipes. Being able to organize all of these additional recipes into your own personal cookbook can make finding the recipes you want quick and easy. Instructions


1. Many people prefer to have recipes that are categorized by course. Popular categories for this method include appetizers, main courses, casseroles, side dishes and desserts. This helps the user to find the kind of food he is looking for based on what part of the meal he is trying to make.


2. Some people prefer to have their recipes sorted by ingredients. This can allow you to find a recipe to make with the ingredients that you already might have in your home. Possible categories for this method include beef, pork, chicken, seafood and chocolate.


3. Sometimes you would prefer to be able to find meals that are better for a certain time of day. For this method, you easily can categorize your recipes using categories such as breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner and dessert.

Fertilize With Chicken Manure

Chickens provide the best manure for fertilizer.


The ultimate organic fertilizer for your garden is chicken manure. It is the best natural fertilizing resource because it contains high amounts of nitrogen in addition to phosphorus, potassium and other nutrients. Unless you raise chickens, you will have to find a local resource for chicken manure such as local 4-H clubs, farmers or feed stores. Knowing fertilize with chicken manure will help you produce a bountiful garden. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


Preliminary Instructions


1. Determine how much chicken manure you need to fertilize your garden. The basic rule of thumb is to use 50 pounds of chicken manure per 100 square feet of garden soil.


2. Choose your preferred method to fertilize your garden with chicken manure. There are three ways: mixing the manure directly into the garden soil, making a manure tea, or composting the manure.


3. Allow the manure to age before broadcasting it into the soil (should you choose the direct method). It is the safest way to fertilize if you do not want to compost or make a manure tea.

4. Use a large scoop to broadcast the chicken manure evenly over your garden soil.


5. Let the manure rest in a pile outdoors for at least three weeks before spreading the chicken manure.


6. Work the aged chicken manure into your garden soil using a hoe or tiller before planting.


Making Chicken Manure Tea for Fertilizer


7. Prepare the chicken manure tea by filling a large garbage can three-fourths full of water .


8. Shovel the chicken manure into a burlap bag, put in a rock or brick and then tie the opening shut with twine. Place the burlap bag in the water-filled garbage can. The rock or brick will weigh down the burlap bag, keeping it submersed in the water.


9. Allow the chicken manure to sit for three weeks in the water. The water will become rich with nutrients, creating chicken manure tea.


10. Fill a watering can or sprayer with the manure tea and water your garden plants or seeds so they can benefit from this homemade liquid fertilizer.

11. Add the chicken manure to your existing compost pile and water it thoroughly.


12. Use a rake or pitchfork to turn over the composting material, mixing the chicken manure with the other organic ingredients.


13. Turn the manure every two to three weeks to aerate the compost pile. In about six months, the chicken manure compost will be ready to spread over your garden soil as fertilizer.


14. Fertilize your garden by mixing the composted chicken manure into the soil using a hoe or tiller.

How Much Money Does The Average Chicken Farmer Make

Chicken farmers face uncertain salary conditions and severe competition from commercial factory farms.


When the chicken at your dinner table comes from an independent chicken farmer, the work is partly a labor of love. It has to be because independent chicken farms face severe market conditions that typically depress wages, make it difficult to turn a profit and require chicken farmers to take other work to keep their farms solvent.


Identification


A chicken farmer raises poultry on a plot of land and sells poultry products (such as meat and eggs) for commercial gain. Throughout the year, chicken farmers balance their need to make money with the long-term viability of their farm. This means selling some of their chickens, while selling the eggs of others. Some eggs may also be hatched to increase the number of chickens on the farm.


How Much Do They Make?


The earning potential of a chicken farm is virtually unlimited. Bigger farms tend to earn more money. However, according to StateUniversity.com, the average chicken farmer makes anywhere from $13,900 to more than $20,000 a year. Much of the average pay of a chicken farmer in any given year depends on the market prices for eggs and poultry products (which can vary significantly), as well as how much of the profit from that year's stock needs to be reinvested into the farm.


Salary Considerations


While chicken farmers can make a good living with some luck and a big enough farm, many factors are coming together to reduce the earnings of independent chicken farmers. Much of the country's chicken is now produced by vast commercial factory farming outlets, making it harder for independent producers to compete. Furthermore, a variety of natural phenomenon can reduce profits or wipe them out entirely. The chickens can catch diseases that reduce their production or kill them off, facilities can be destroyed by weather or market prices can drop significantly.


Farm Household Income


When it comes to farmers in general, the statistics for making money on any type of farm do not inspire confidence. According to the United States Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service, the vast majority of profits in farming are made by commercial farms, not independent ones. The agency shows that while farm household incomes are rising, much of that growth is from non-farm jobs, meaning chicken farmers likely have to perform other work while farming to keep themselves afloat.

How Many Ounces Of Formula Should A Baby Have When Eating Solid Foods

Parents typically introduce solid foods to a baby's diet between the ages of 4 and 6 months. At this time the amount of formula or milk consumed by the baby will decrease slightly as food intake increases. Babies will likely be drinking about 35 ounces of formula when food is introduced then gradually drop to about 16 ounces by their first birthday.


0-4 Months


The earliest you should introduce a baby to solid foods is 4 months old. Prior to introducing solid foods, determine the amount of formula or milk a baby needs each day by multiplying the baby's weight by 2.5.


4-6 Months


Four-month-old babies who eat solid food typically drink about four to five bottles each day with about 6 to 7 ounces of formula or milk. Thus, a 4-month-old will consume 24 to 35 ounces of formula or milk each day.


6-12 Months


Six-month-old babies who eat solid foods typically drink three to four bottles a day each with about 7 to 8 ounces of formula of milk. That's 21 to 32 ounces of formula or milk each day. Babies will generally stay at this same amount until their first birthday when they transition to cow's milk.


1 Year and Beyond


One-year-old babies usually drink 16 to 24 ounces of milk per day along with three meals and snacks.


Signs That a Baby is Getting Enough Formula


Babies should have about six to eight wet diapers daily. If not, they may not be getting enough formula or milk. Also, the baby should seem relaxed after eating and should steadily gain weight.


Feeding Flexibility


The guidelines for formula amounts are flexible. A baby's hunger cues should supersede the guidelines because babies go through growth spurts when they will need additional nutrition. Similarly, they will go through periods when they will eat and drink less than usual.

List Of Healthy Snacks For Kids On The Go

According to Iowa State University, children's small stomachs mean they need frequent snacks for optimal health. In fact, they state that nearly one-third of a child's calories comes from the snacks they eat. Sandwich Cutouts


Make a sandwich that stays put together pretty well, like peanut butter and thin banana slices or turkey breast and low-fat cream cheese on whole grain bread. Make these sandwiches both bite-sized and portable by using cookie cutters to cut out small, fun shapes. They can be popped in the mouth like chips or sandwich crackers, but offer more nutrition.


Cinnamon Fries


Take slices of whole wheat or whole grain cinnamon raisin bread and toast it until slightly crisp. Cut the bread into strips that resemble french fries. Pack these in snack-sized sandwich bags. For a variation, make a cinnamon raisin bread sandwich with cream cheese and cut it into strips.


Squishy Cat Eyeballs


Push whole almonds into the center of red seedless grapes so that they vaguely resemble cat's eyes. For a summer variation on these treats, place the stuffed grapes on a flat baking sheet and freeze until firm.


Ants on a Log


This snack involves spreading peanut butter, low-fat cream cheese or yogurt on celery sticks and then pressing raisins into the filling. It creates the illusion of ants crawling on a log. The trick to making this snack portable for kids on the go is to use a thick filling that will stay inside the celery.


Make-Your-Own Trail Mix


Have your child create her own snack mix. Provide different cereals, pretzels, dried fruits, nuts, chunks of broken up granola bars and other healthy snacks. Allow her to add what she likes to her own snack bag, then seal and shake it to mix.


Pre-Prepared and Store-Bought Snacks


There are many convenience food items designed for kids on the go. These kinds of items include cheese sticks or cubes, yogurt in tubes, granola bar and muffin bites, and prepackaged fruit in bite-sized portions. The trick to choosing healthy snacks from processed foods is to look for items low in saturated fat and sodium that are also low in sugar and contain whole grains when applicable.

Make Great Compost

Compost is an efficient way to utilize kitchen and yard waste.


Composting is a practical way to utilize yard and kitchen waste. Compost is also an excellent amendment to most soil types. It increases aeration in heavy soils, decreases water loss in sandy soils, and increases the amount of nutrients and microorganisms in most soil conditions. Either incorporate compost into the soil or apply it on top as a mulch. You can compost indoors, although some methods are more appropriate for outdoor use. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


1. Determine which composting method is best for where you live and the type and amount of waste you have. As noted by the University of Illinois Extension, a compost bin is ideal if you have little space, need a minimal amount of compost and want a low-maintenance pile. Some compost methods, like holding units, take longer to decompose than others. Pit or trench composting is ideal if you have a large yard and don't need your compost in a hurry.


2. Place your compost pile in an accessible location that is close to a water supply, such as a hose. If your compost pile is situated outdoors, the University of Florida IFAS Extension recommends placing it in a shady location where it will be more comfortable to work in hot summer months.


3. Build your compost pile about 3 cubic feet. According to the University of Florida IFAS Extension, these are the ideal dimensions for composting units, regardless of the method you choose. The only exception to this rule is heap compost piles, which are bigger than most other piles. Heap piles should be no larger than 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep, with a maximum height of 3 feet.


4. Allow plenty of room on the sides of your compost pile for ventilation. Packing your compost pile too tightly will not allow adequate aeration, which is necessary for the decomposition process.


5. Shred large materials, such as coarse sticks, twigs and large leaves, so that they decompose faster.


6. Layer composting materials. The University of Missouri Extension recommends starting with an organic layer, followed by a second layer of fertilizer or manure. Follow these two layers with a level of soil or sod. Repeat these three layers until your compost is 3 feet high, or 5 feet for heaps.


7. Add water to your compost pile whenever you add another layer. You should add enough water to moisten the pile to a sponge-like consistency, but not so much that it is runny.


8. Turn your compost with a spade when the core reaches a temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit. In warmer temperatures, this may take as little as a week. In cooler seasons, it can take up to a month. When you turn your compost, move the materials in the center to the outside of the pile in order to encourage the decomposition process.

Make Yoshinoya Beef

Make Yoshinoya Beef


Cheap, fast and yummy. Yoshinoya's slogan summarizes what has kept crowds visiting the restaurant since its 1899 opening. The food chain is as much a part of Japan's culture as McDonald's is to America's. Its signature dish, the Yoshinoya Beef Bowl, is indeed yummy and easy to make at home. This recipe will take less than 45 minutes and serves two to four people. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Instructions


The Beef


1. Chop a yellow or white onion into thin slices.


2. Slice 1 lb. of beef into thin strips or bite-sized pieces. Flank beef or short plate cuts of beef will work best.


3. Put the onion, 1 1/3 cup of dashi soup, 5 tbsp. of soy sauce, 3 tbsp. of sugar, 3 tbsp. of mirin rice wine and 1 tsp. sake into a saucepan. Dashi is a soup made from dried kelp (kombu) and dried bonito (fish) flakes. Mirin is a rice wine that adds sweetness. Sake is a Japanese wine, the national alcoholic drink of Japan. You can buy these items at an Asian market or in the Asian section in larger supermarkets.


4. Bring to a boil.


5. Add the beef to the pan and simmer until the beef is no longer pink. Do not cook the beef for too long, or it will become tough.


The Rice


6. Boil 6 cups of water in medium saucepan.


7. Add 4 cups of rice and 1 tsp. salt.


8. Reduce the heat and cover the pan. Cook until water the is reduced and the rice is tender.


9. Spoon the warm rice into a bowl.


10. Top with the beef and garnish with chopped green onions, parsley or cilantro.

Vegan Alternatives For Parmesan Or Grated Cheese

Animal byproducts like Parmesan cheese is off limits for vegans.


Vegans choose not to have the milk from goats, cows, sheep or any other animal that is used to make hundreds of varieties of cheese. While cheese is off limits, vegans don't have to miss out entirely. Many commercially produced substitutes are readily available at grocery stores. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Parmesan Alternatives


Grated Parmesan cheese alternatives are improving with the popularity of nondairy and vegan lifestyles. While the consistency of grated Parmesan may be easy to replicate, the distinctive taste is not. Many commercially produced Parmesan substitutes still contain casein, a milk-derived protein food additive, so it is important to check labels. Parmesan substitutes usually include soy and rice flours, vegetable oils and small amounts of citric acid and enzymes.


Grated Cheese Alternatives


The biggest problem with nondairy grated cheese is melting. Without dairy fat, it is difficult to achieve the elasticity of regular cheese. There are many commercially made options on the market that come grated and in flavors like mozzarella, cheddar and Monterrey jack. The products are most often made of soy and vegetable or plant oils along with a number of artificial ingredients needed to achieved a cheese-like consistency when melted.


Yeast


Both brewers and nutritional yeast are a good natural alternative to grated Parmesan cheese. Brewers yeast is a by product of beer production while nutritional yeast is cultured. Both varieties come in flakes or powder. The flakes can be sprinkled on salads, vegetables, pizza and pasta just like grated Parmesan. Yeast has a slightly nutty flavor and is a good substitute for cheese. Nutritional and brewers yeast are both high in protein and rich in vitamins and are a good nutritional substitute as well as replacement for grated Parmesan cheese.


Nuts


Finely ground nuts can be an alternative to grated Parmesan cheese. Nuts are often an ingredient in Parmesan substitutes because when ground they have a similar consistency. In recipes that call for baking, nuts are not the best choice but toasted and finely ground walnuts, pine nuts, almonds and macadamia nuts produce an alternative to grated Parmesan on salads and pasta. You can also experiment with mixing different kinds of ground nuts to get the right flavor.

Boil A Quail Egg

Quail eggs can be found at Asian grocery stores.


Quail eggs often are used in Asian cuisine, particularly Japanese, but they can be adapted to many recipes. Once they are hard-boiled, they taste the same as boiled chicken eggs but are much smaller. The speckled shells are attractive but thin enough to easily remove from the cooked egg. Since they are much smaller than chicken eggs, it takes less time to boil quail eggs. Store the eggs for a week before boiling because week-old eggs are easier to peel than fresh-laid ones. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Instructions


1. Fill a pot with cool tap water and 1/8 tsp. of salt. Set the quail eggs in the pot in a single layer, arranging them so they aren't touching one another.


2. Heat the water over medium-high heat until it begins to boil. Boil the eggs for five minutes, stirring the eggs gently with a wooden spoon. Stirring prevents the yolks from hardening on one side of the egg.


3. Remove the pot from the heat once the cooking time completes. Gently pour the eggs into a colander, and run cold tap water over them until the eggs are cool enough to handle.


4. Roll the egg on the counter top, breaking the shell on all sides. Peel under running water soon after cooking because waiting can make them more difficult to peel.

Maybe you just had a baby or you've been trying to lose stomach weight for years. Whatever the case, it takes will power and determination to lose weight fast, especially in the stomach area. Here's lose stomach weight fast:


Instructions


1. Eliminate all white flour products from your diet and eat vegetables instead (preferably green leafy vegetables). Broccoli has protein and many health benefits so you can start with that, but don't forget the hundreds of other green leafy vegetables that are out on the market as well. Doing just the one step will help you lose stomach weight fast.


2. Eliminate sugar from your eating plan. Chocolate, candies, cookies, etc are super fun while you're eating them, but they completely sabotage any healthy diet and make your stomach fat. Sugar also makes you tired. If you eliminate all simple sugars from your diet, you'll soon be amazed at how much stomach weight you'll lose.


3. Be sure to eat five small meals a day. This takes some getting used to, but trust me, when you replace white flour products with vegetables and stop eating simple sugars, you will want that small healthy meal every 3-4 hours. Be sure to eat a source of protein at EVERY meal (eggs, meats, nuts, etc) since protein is the one thing that will keep you full until the next meal. If you think of your plate in thirds, one third will be protein, one third vegetables and one third complex carbohydrates (sweet potato, whole grain wild rice, etc). Eat things that look like they just came from the farm or field - the more natural it is, the healthier it is for you and the faster you will lose the stomach weight fast.


4. Drink a lot of water to help increase your stomach fat weight loss. You should drink at least 3 tall glasses of water a day. Those sugar drinks, coffees and sodas are going to get you NOWHERE - you will not lose weight fast while consuming those products. They sabotage your healthy diet just like cookies, cakes and candies. Eliminate the sugar drinks and drink water, milk and not from concentrate orange juice instead. V8's are great too if you can stand the salt.


5. Start exercising if you haven't already. Do cardio 4-5 times a week for 30-60 minute intervals. Do abdominal exercises too, but you need to realize that losing stomach weight fast has more to do with your diet than doing hundreds of crunches in the gym (and if you're doing hundreds of crunches, you're doing them wrong! - you should be exhausted at 12 reps per set). Weight training will help you burn fat fast too, so don't be afraid to pick up the weights.


6. Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. The more rested you are, the better your body performs.

Store Shortgrain Brown Rice

While short-grain is a variety of brown rice that tends to stick together once cooked, all brown rice needs to be stored using the same techniques. Brown rice goes rancid quickly due to the oil located in the bran layer of the rice. Storing the short-grain brown rice in the refrigerator or freezer helps to prolong the storage life, but many people also prefer to store the rice in the kitchen pantry. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions


Refrigerator


1. Pour the brown short-grain rice into an airtight container.


2. Place the container in the coldest section of the refrigerator.


3. Store the short-grain brown rice for up to 6 months if uncooked. Cooked brown rice will last for up to 5 days.


Freezer


4. Pour the brown rice into a freezer container or bag. Remove the air from the freezer bag.


5. Place the brown rice into the freezer.


6. Store the short-grain rice for up to 12 months in the freezer. Cooked brown rice will last for up to 6 months in the freezer.


Pantry


7. Place the brown rice in an airtight container or storage bag. You can also store the rice in a vacuum-sealed bag. Removing the excess air will help prolong the storage life.


8. Store the sealed brown rice in the pantry or a dark and cool location.


9. Consume or use the brown rice within 6 months for best results.

Feed Puppy Food to Large Breed Dogs


With large-breed dogs, you can run into problems later in life caused by actually giving your puppy too much nutrition. These problems are usually musculoskeletal ones, such as hip dysplasia. Despite what you might have heard, you don't want your puppy to grow and fill out quickly, which will happen with many of the puppy formulas on the market. Careful consideration about the dog food you are feeding your puppy can help avoid these problems.


Instructions


Researching


1. Find nutritional information on the puppy foods you are considering. You might be able to get pamphlets from the feed dealers or you might have to check the companies' websites.


2. Look on the nutritional information for the amounts of protein, fat, calories and calcium in the food. You are looking for 23 to 26 percent protein, 12 to 16 percent fat, 350 to 400 calories per cup of food and 1.2 to 1.5 percent calcium.


3. Examine all of the product information you have to find out how many protein sources are available in the food. There should be at least two, such as lamb and chicken or chicken and fish. These sources should be a meal rather than whole, since the weight of whole meat includes water content.


4. Find out if the food has been approved for puppy growth by the Association of American Feed Control Officials, Inc. This approval will have come through performance in feeding trials.


Feeding


5. Provide food three times each day to your puppy if he's under six months old and allow him to eat continuously for a limited amount of time. Ten minutes is recommended by Dr. Chick Newman of Newman Veterinary.


6. Provide food for puppies older than six months two times a day, but again for a limited time only.


7. Check that your puppy is gaining weight, but it is best if puppies don't seem fat and slick-coated until they are completely grown. This might mean your puppy is growing too fast. After your puppy is fully grown, though, he needs to get enough food that he fills in and his skin begins to look good.

Italian Restaurants Lake Zurich Illinois

Incorporated in 1896, Lake Zurich, Illinois is approximately 32 miles northwest of Chicago in Illinois' Lake County. As of July 2009, more than 10 percent of the people of Lake Zurich classified themselves as Italian, making this the fourth largest ethnic group in the town, according to City-Data.com. A number of Italian restaurants are located in the city, serving pizza, pasta and other dishes associated with the culinary traditions of Italy.


Sapore Trattoria


The owner and chef of Sapore Trattoria immigrated from Sicily and prepares dishes from recipes passed down by his family. The menu begins with six appetizers, such as the antipasto Italiano, a platter of prosciutto ham, salami, capicola and fontinella and mozzarella cheeses. Among the pasta entrees is the chef's special canneloni, house-made made pasta filled with ground beef and veal, topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese and then baked. Cleaning supplies can be expensive and sometimes it seems you don't have what you really need, when you are ready to clean. Because of the profitable nature of most modern cleaning supplies, there are continuously more components to buy. There are ways to make your supplies last longer and be less expensive to use.


Instructions


1. Make your own carpet cleaner. Mix a quart of water with a small amount of vinegar and laundry detergent. Put the mixture into an empty spray bottle, and spray on soiled areas. Let the mixture soak for a while before wiping it away with a moist towel.


2. Buy inexpensive microfiber cloths to replace the expensive cleaning cloth refills. Rinse out the cloths when they are dirty and reuse them. Use the cloths dry, as furniture dusters and wet them for other cleaning. Attach a wet microfiber cloth to the popular wet/dry brooms when it is time for a replacement.


3. Avoid buying more toilet bowl cleaner when your supply runs low. Use simple white vinegar to clean the toilets. Pour in a little vinegar and scrub with a toilet brush.


4. Use olive oil as a wood cleaner for wood furniture. Use a cloth to apply the oil, just as you would a commercial oil, and allow it to moisturize the wood.


5. Cut a lemon in half and dip it in kosher salt. Use it to scrub your sink and give it a fresh smell.


6. Measure and use the correct amounts of your regular cleaning products. Many products are concentrated and more of it, will not make things any cleaner.


7. Use baking soda to absorb odors in your home instead of chemical air fresheners.

Unlock Ezekiel Jackson In 'Smackdown Vs Raw 2010'

"WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010" features several characters and hidden outfits that are available to be unlocked. Ezekiel Jackson, who is known for his prodigious power, is one of these wrestlers. Ezekiel can be unlocked by meeting some conditions during the third match of the main story mode. Once you meet these conditions, Ezekiel will be available as a playable character.


Instructions


1. Create your own WWE wrestler using the main menu options, and start the "Road to Wrestlemania." Complete the matches during the first two weeks.


2. Begin your match in the third week. This will be a match against Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozloy. Perform a few weak moves, such as light grapples and light attacks, to weaken your opponents slightly. This will make them less likely to resist your heavier moves.


3. Move toward the ring ropes in any direction. Your opponents will follow you. Hold down the "B" button for Xbox 360 or the "Circle" button for PlayStation 3 to perform a Hammer Throw. This will toss your opponent over the top rope and out of the ring. Throw both Ezekiel and Vladimir out of the ring at least once during this match to unlock Ezekiel Jackson.

New York State'S Food Stamp Eligibility Requirements

Nearly 3 million people needed food stamps in New York State in December, 2010.


The first food stamp program in the United States began in New York in 1939. At the time, participants actually bought colored stamps to exchange for food, and the first user was Rochester resident named Mabel McFiggin. The original program was short-lived, but national food assistance became permanent with the passing of the Food Stamp Act of 1964. Food stamp benefits are funded by the federal government but administered by the states. New York State's Food Stamp Program is managed by the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.


Citizenship and Residency


Applicants for food stamps in New York must be residents of the state. They must also be United States citizens, or legal immigrants who have lived in the country for at least five years. Immigrant children, however, are potentially eligible regardless of when they entered the United States.


Income Guidelines


A household cannot exceed certain monthly income limits and remain eligible for the food stamp program. The income limits are generally based on the current federal poverty guidelines. New York has several different income limits, which depend on whether or not a household has disabled or elderly members or children. The maximum income level for a household with children and/or elderly or disabled members is higher than that for households without them. As of 2011, the maximum gross monthly income a two-person household with no dependent care expenses, elderly or disabled individuals was $1,570, while the maximum for a two-person household with these members was $2,428.


Asset Test


Unlike many other states, New York does not apply an asset test to most households applying for food stamps. If a member of the household has been previously sanctioned or disqualified from the program, the household will be subject to the asset test. In addition, households with elderly or disabled members which exceed the maximum monthly income limits may still qualify for food stamps in New York if their assets do not exceed a certain level. In 2011, this asset limit was $3,000.


Expedited Food Stamps


New York households in dire financial need may apply for expedited food stamps, which will be available within five days. In order to qualify for expedited benefits, a household's immediate expenses for rent, mortgage, utilities and child care must be more than its monthly income. Individuals or households which have earned less than $150 during the past 30 days and have less than $100 in cash may also apply for emergency, expedited food stamps.

Brine Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast

Eating chicken breasts that have had the skin and bone removed is an effective way to decrease the fat content. It is also a good way to decrease the moisture and flavor content, which won't make anyone happy. Brining your boneless, skinless chicken breast helps to retain moisture and gives you an opportunity to add some more flavors to the chicken. Instructions


1. Add a half-gallon of water, 1-cup kosher salt, ½ cup sugar and any spices or added flavors to a pot. Bring the mixture to a boil until the salt and sugar are dissolved.


2. Allow the brine to cool and then add the remaining half-gallon of water.


3. Place your chicken breasts into large, resealable kitchen bags. Add enough brine to each bag to cover the chicken on all sides.


4. Seal the bags and refrigerate for 30 to 60 minutes. Remove the chicken breasts from the bags and rinse them with cool water and pat dry with paper towel. Discard the brining liquid. Cook your chicken breasts according to the recipe you are following.

The textile industry includes every business involved in growing or producing fibers, such as sheep farmers and cotton growers; those who make the fiber into thread; those who make the thread into cloth; and those who dye, bleach and finish the cloth.The textile industry also includes chemical companies that make synthetic fibers and all the resultant products. Then there are the wholesalers and retailers of all these textiles, and the products that are made from them.


History


Textiles have been around almost as long as humankind itself. Early humans wore animal skins and clothing woven from leaves and grasses. As humans evolved, so did the textiles they used in their daily lives and the processes by which they were made.


Significance


The textile industry affects every aspect of our lives. The textile industry also serves other segments of the marketplace, such as those involved in the textile arts like quilters and knitters. Even painters rely on the textile industry for canvas on which to paint. Other artists are actually part of the textile industry: those who sell their designs to fabric manufacturers, who print those designs directly on the fabric they make. There are industries that have been built on serving the textile industry, such as weaving machinery manufacturers, and even software providers who customize software for the textile industry.


Size


The textile industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry. One small component of the industry alone--the organic cotton growers (which excludes growers who don't farm with organic methods and all other components of the industry)--reached an estimated $3.2 billion in 2008, according to the nonprofit Organic Exchange.


Considerations


Other industries that rely on the textile industry for the success of their own business include manufacturers of embellishments used on clothing, such as buttons, sequins and zippers; and manufacturers of sewing machines, knitting needles and drapery hardware, just to name a few.

Memorize Produce Codes

Memorizing produce codes is a basic part of pretty much any grocery store checker's job description. The task can seem daunting when you realize how many hundreds of different kinds of produce are out there, but keep in mind that you'll catch onto the most popular items by default. The rest of the produce codes can be learned over time.


Instructions


1. Become familiar with the produce items in the store that you work in. Walk the department regularly, paying attention to what is on sale and in season.


2. Learn the names of all the different types of produce offered. You need to be able to see a fruit or vegetable and put a name to it in case you forget a produce code and have to look it up.


3. Make flash cards to help you memorize produce codes. You can use pictures or the name of the produce, depending on how you learn better. The trick is to learn not only what code goes to what item, but to be able to name an item when you see the code.


4. Spend extra time on memorizing codes to similar items. Different types of apples, for example, all have different codes. Have a friend practice with you, testing you on both the popular and rare produce items.


5. Compile a list of the produce that is in season or on sale at your store. Refer to the list if you absolutely have to, but do your best to memorize the codes ahead of time.

Reduce Gas When Cooking Dry Beans

Learn make delicious beans more digestible.


Beans, also known as legumes, are low in fat and a good source of protein, potassium, folate, magnesium and iron. Including 1/2 cup of beans in your diet a few times each week can result in a lower risk of heart disease, according to a study from North Dakota State University. You may love the taste of beans, but often find them hard to digest. Beans are full of starch, which doesn't digest easily and can produce gas. Instructions


1. Pick through the beans and discard any small stones, pebbles, dirt and other foreign matter.


2. Place the beans in a large pot. Add enough water to completely cover the beans. Bring to a boil for 2 to 3 minutes. Cover the pot and allow the beans to soak overnight.


3. Drain the soaking water. Rinse the beans several times until the water runs clear. Up to 90 percent of the indigestible starch and sugar in the beans will have been absorbed in the soaking water, according to The Mayo Clinic.


4. Put the beans and a 3-inch strip of kombu seaweed into a large pot. The kombu seaweed helps make the beans more digestible.


5. Bring the beans to a boil over high heat, cover the pot and simmer for one hour. Add a pinch of sea salt and cook for another 30 minutes, or until the beans are soft.

Ways To Cook Venison Burgers

Cooking ground venison is like cooking ground beef.


Venison and ground beef are very similar. The only difference is taste and fat content. As a general rule of thumb, venison is leaner than beef. Because all the other characteristics are similar, the cooking methods are similar as well. You can saute, grill or roast venison burgers in the oven. Because it is wild game, however, it's best to cook venison to well done. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Pan Fry


Obtain a skillet, and pan fry the burgers the same as you would hamburger. Slice up an onion and saute it along with the venison patties. Because the meat is very lean, some cooks recommend rubbing the pan with butter. You can use a little olive oil or other good vegetable oil. Do not use canola oil, since this oil burns easily, leaving a "fishy" taste. Use seasoning, such as salt, pepper and garlic to taste. If you prefer, make a mix of half venison and half ground beef to obtain a beefy taste from the patties.


Grilling


You can grill the patties on a barbecue, the same as hamburger patties. Because venison is very lean, it may crumble easily, so pack the meat extra tight. Add seasonings to taste, and cook to well done. If you're using charcoal, wait until the coals turn gray and spread out them out evenly so no hot or cold spots exist.


Roasting


Lightly grease or oil a cookie sheet or shallow roasting pan. Place the burgers on the sheet, season to taste and cook to well done. Set the oven at 325 and cook for about 10 minutes. Obtain a meat thermometer, and test the internal temperature. Cooks at the Recipe Exchange recommend an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit for well done venison.


Venison "Sloppy Joes"


Instead of using ground beef, use ground venison when making "sloppy joes." Crumble and pan fry the venison, much as you would beef. Add in the tomato based sauce, and serve on hamburger buns.

These make it a ripe location to invest in a small business that caters to India's growing middle class.


Instructions


1. Get a Director Identification Number (DIN) by completing Form DIN-1. Know that you can obtain this form from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs website. See the Resources section below for a link. Print, sign and submit the completed form to the ministry via courier. Use the following address: Ministry of Corporate Affairs; 'A' Wing, Shastri Bhawan; Rajendra Prasad Road; New Delhi 110 001. Contact these numbers for specific mailing instructions: 011 23384158, 23384660, 23384659.


2. Contact the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for information on private agencies with current authority to issue a digital signature certificate. Check the ministry's website if the desired business name is already taken. See the Resources section below for a link. Get your business or company papers stamped with the local Ministry of Corporate Affairs office, or at an approved bank. Present these stamped papers, along with the registration fee, to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.


3. Get a tax deduction number from the tax department in the India city you want to start a small business in. Know that this is a 10-digit alphanumeric number your business' pay department uses to collect tax. Receive this number from an officer that the National Securities Depository Services appointed to issue this number.


4. Submit your business contact information as per the Bombay Shops and Establishments Act, 1948. Provide a shop inspector an inspector fee as well as documents containing the business owner's and manager's names. Obtain copies of the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment Rules of December 15, 2003 for fees you'll need to pay. See the Resources section below for a link.


5. Register for the applicable taxes. List your business with the Employees' Provident Fund Organization--India's version of Social Security. Apply for medical insurance for your employees by submitting Form 01, Employees' State Insurance (General).

Growing your own herbs is easy and economical.


Though they are simple to grow and readily available, fresh herbs are quite costly when purchased at the grocery store or local market. Those with gardens, terraces, patios, porches or even sunny windowsills can easily cultivate these pricey plants at home. Herbs that are not immediately utilized can be dried and stored for later use or sold at the farmer's market for a handsome profit. Does this Spark an idea?


Culinary Herbs


Chefs of all calibers prefer fresh herbs for their dishes. Not only do they add a flavorful kick to homemade soups, salads, casseroles and stews, fresh herbs tend to look nicer when incorporated into a dish or set along the side of the plate as garnish. Some of the most popular herbs for the kitchen include basil, chives, cilantro, oregano, parsley, thyme and sage. These hardy plants are easily grown from seeds and require almost no attention, beyond routine watering; however, in the store these flavorsome leaves can sell for as much as $2 per half ounce -- about the same price as a packet of garden seeds. From a single envelop of seeds, multiple plants can be grown, each of which is capable of producing a seemingly endless supply of tasty, aromatic foliage, flowers and stems.


Aromatic Herbs


Aromatic herbs are valued for their sweet scent. While potpourris, air fresheners and fabric sprays can be quite expensive, pots filled with plants such as lavender, lemon balm, lemon verbena and apple mint, fill the air with fragrance and eliminate unpleasant household odors for a fraction of the price of commercial deodorizing products. Sprigs of these pungent plants can be used to fill sachets or placed throughout the house in small vases. Not only to they smell lovely, they tend to keep unwanted pests, such as flies, ants and moths at bay.


Herbal Teas


There are few situations that cannot be improved by a cup of hot tea. Herbal teas are popular with many as they tend to calm the nerves, ease digestive upset and bring on a decent night's rest. Rather than paying through the nose for a handful of dried flowers; plant a few chamomile or beebalm plants. These herbs are the main components in a number of trendy, store-bought herbal tea blends. To make a homemade beverage, simply snip a few flowers from the stems of the plant, drop them in a mug, then cover the blossoms with piping hot water and let the mixture steep for five minutes before drinking.


Medicinal Herbs


The use of medicinal herbs has grown in recent years. Whether people are disillusioned with modern medicine, dislike the possible side-effects of prescriptions, or are simply seeking less expensive alternatives; traditional, time-honored remedies are being resurrected and utilized by people all over the country. As a result, the cost of the most useful curative herbs has increased. Fortunately, plants such as St. John's wort, catmint, and marsh mallow can be easily grown in the home garden and put to use in a number of everyday preparations. The ingredients in organic lollipops are organic evaporated cane juice, organic tapioca syrup or organic rice syrup, citric acid from beet sugar and natural flavors. Depending on the flavor, organic lollipops may contain black carrots, black currant, apple, carrot and pumpkin.


Organic Gummies


There is an organic style of gummi for every nonorganic gummi. How Make Peanut Butter Without Oil

Creamy peanut butter.


Peanut butter can be made utilizing only the oils within the peanuts and no additional oil. Spanish peanuts are the best to use when making peanut butter because they have a higher oil content than other peanuts. Avoid the roasting process when not using oil to make peanut butter, because roasting will cause a lot of the natural oils to burn away. The best way to make peanut butter without oil is to grind the peanuts. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Instructions


1. Rinse the peanuts lightly in cool water. Do not use hot water; it will pull some of the natural oils out of the peanuts. The purpose of the rinse is simply to remove any particles from the peanuts.


2. Place the Spanish peanuts into a food processor. Include the salt and honey if you wish to have those flavors in your peanut butter.


3. Grind the mixture into a paste.


4. Shut off the food processor and occasionally scrape off any paste that sticks to the walls of the food processor.


5. Continue grinding until you reach the desired consistency.


6. Remove the peanut butter from the food processor and store in a plastic container.

Instructions


1. Crumple a sheet of newspaper into a ball. Stuff the ball into a paper lunch sack. Gather the top of the paper bag together and twist it tightly to form the turkey's neck.


2. Use a hot glue gun to attach the googly eyes to the turkeys head. Glue the red balloon to the face, as well.


3. Open up the large paper bag. Make a small slit in the side of the bag, close to the bottom. Slide the neck into the slit.


4. Fill about two thirds of the large paper bag with crumpled newspaper. Gather the top of the bag and close it up by wrapping a rubber band around the opening.


5. Cut two large circles from the last paper bag. Fold the two circles in half, then cut along the fold line to get four half circles. Crumple the halves then open them up.


6. Attach the half circles with hot glue to the back of the turkey to make the tail feathers. Glue on the first half, and then layer the other three on top of it, gluing each in place.

Make Soap Easy

Making handmade, cold-press soap can seem complicated. It involves heating ingredients to a specific temperature and combining them in a specific way so that the soap solidifies properly. Luckily, making soap can be easy if a few steps are followed in the right order, turning a complicated process into an easy one. Simplifying a soap recipe by using one type of oil, instead of three or four, also helps to make soap making, once an important frontier craft, easy.


Instructions


1. Put on eye goggles and protective gloves to keep the eyes and skin safe, and pour the 7 ounces of lye and 16 ounces of water into a glass measuring cup. This is a very caustic process which will create fumes that can hurt the lungs, skin and eyes, so combining the lye and the water in a well-ventilated area is important. Place a glass candy-making thermometer into the measuring cup to gauge the temperature. This type of thermometer can be placed into very hot mixtures without breaking and also makes it easy to gauge when the lye water is hot enough to be combined with the oil.


2. Pour all of the olive oil into a stock pot, and heat it on a stove top over medium heat. Using only olive oil, instead of a mixture of olive oil, coconut oil and beeswax, eliminates the need for a double boiler, thereby simplifying the process. Place another glass candy-making thermometer into the stock pot. Once the 48 ounces of olive oil and the 23 ounces of lye water both reach a temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit, carefully pour the lye water into the olive oil. Use a long-handled spoon and stir the soap mixture vigorously for around 30 minutes, or until the mixture becomes thickened. The thickening is important, so that the soap will become solid in the molds.


3. Pour the soap mixture slowly into individual soap molds. Using individual soap molds instead of a single, rectangular soap mold eliminates the need to cut the soap bar into separate soaps after it has cured, which further simplifies the soap-making process. Place the soap molds in a cool room away from sunlight, and let them stay there untouched for at least six weeks to allow the soaps to harden and for the lye to become usable on the skin. After six weeks, pop the soaps out of the soap molds, and use them for cleaning or to give away as gifts.

Healthy Hot Dogs


Hot dogs are a great finger food, but they are not always the healthiest option. However, there are a few brands that are both healthy and inexpensive. Good Housekeeping magazine recommends two types of hot dogs in particular-Ball Park Lite Beef Franks and Hebrew National 97 Percent Fat Free Franks. These dogs should be served with whole wheat hot dog buns, and any leftover buns should be placed in the freezer for future use. All too often shoppers throw money away by not using leftover buns before the expiration date and then tossing the moldy buns into the garbage can. As for toppings, steer clear of nacho cheese sauce or french fried onions. Instead, add some sauteed peppers and onions or make a southwestern dog with pinto beans and fresh pico de gallo.


Breakfast for Dinner


Come home with a dozen eggs and a package of frozen whole grain waffles for dinner and your kids will think you are the coolest parent ever. If you have extra time, you can always buy a sweet potato pancake mix or a whole grain waffle mix and make the main dish yourself. Be sure to make extra pancakes or waffles so you can freeze some for breakfast or dinner another day. If your budget allows, you can also buy lean turkey bacon to round out the meal.

Get A Wholesale License In Virginia

To purchase items for resale in Virginia, without paying taxes, requires a Virginia Certificate of Registration.


In Virginia, a business that sells items to the public must collect sales tax. Because of this, they are allowed to purchase those items at wholesale prices to keep the items from being taxed twice. Before starting a retail business of any kind within the state, the operator will need to apply for certain certificates of operation and registrations. The business cannot operate until it does these things and receives the proper papers.


Instructions


1. Register your business with the state of Virgina. All business must register. You can do it online or by sending a registration to the Virginia Department of Taxation. This form covers many registrations all in one, including Sales and Use Tax ID.


2. Receive and write down the Virginia account number that you are given after registration. If you mail in your registration you will have to wait for this information in the mail, which could take a couple of weeks.


3. Receive your Virginia Certificate of Registration for sales tax in the mail. This is your proof that you will be selling things for resale and is needed in order to purchase things at wholesale. It must be posted in your business.

Make An Inground Compost Box

Dig a hole in the ground slightly larger than your compost container.


Composting is a great way to recycle organic waste into usable fertilizer for lawns and gardens. It is a simple way to create a sustainable and green household. Placing the bin in the ground will allow for composting to continue year round, as the ground will help insulate the compost pile, keeping heat--an important element in the compost mix--inside the container. This simple-to-make composting solution can be created on a low budget, while producing results that will be beneficial to both your home and the environment. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


1. Obtain a plastic container that is sized to meet your composting needs. The bin should be at least 12 inches deep to allow for proper composting. A storage tote such as those made by Rubbermaid is easily available and will work great for composting with a few minor alterations.


2. Drill or punch holes around the side of the bin close to the top of the container and above the level of where the bin will be in the ground. These holes will allow air to flow in and out of the bin, allowing oxygen--a vital ingredient in any composting mix--to reach the composting material. Similarly, punch holes in the lid to aid in aerating the compost.


3. Drill or punch drainage holes around the bottom of the bin to allow moisture to seep out of the container. These holes will also allow worms from the surrounding soil to enter the bin and help in decomposing the material.


4. Dig a hole that is slightly larger than your bin in an area that will receives direct sunlight throughout the year. Dig the hole to a depth that will allow the air holes you punched in your bin to sit above ground level. Heat from the sun will speed up decomposition. The area should have good drainage as well to avoid excess buildup of moisture in the surrounding soil.


5. Line the sides of the hole with bricks to help insulate the bin further and keep composting going throughout the year.


6. Place the bin into the hole and line its bottom with twigs and other yard scraps, including a mix of brown and green plant material. This will jumpstart decomposition and aid in creating a base with good airflow.


7. Place your food scraps and other organic household waste into the bin. Leave the lid on the bin to discourage animals from foraging through the waste. Turn the material with a shovel every few weeks.

Prepare A Precooked Frozen Butterball

A Precooked Butterball Turkey can save you a lot of time.


The word Butterball is synonymous with turkey dinners. For the less culinary inclined public, the Butterball company has introduced fully cooked frozen turkeys in baked, broiled and smoked varieties. Preparing these turkeys reduces the chance of a raw center and reduces the time involved in cooking the bird. There are similar steps though between preparing the raw frozen turkey and the fully cooked frozen turkey. Since turkey is a poultry product, failure to follow the prescribed instructions can lead to the development of bacteria forming in the bird's cavity. This could cause illness in anyone who eats the meat. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Instructions


1. Thaw the turkey, breast-side up, in your refrigerator for two to five days prior to cooking. If the turkey is not entirely thawed, moisture will be lost in cooking the turkey to the point at which the interior reaches a palatable temperature. Butterball recommends a temperature of 140 F.


2. Preheat your oven to 325 F. Remove the wrapper and inspect the turkey frozen spots. If spots of frozen meat remain, you will have to use extra caution when cooking to ensure the turkey is cooked thoroughly.


3. Place turkey into a roasting pan at least 2 inches deep. Don't attempt to stuff the turkey. The stuffing will not cook in the length of time needed to heat it. Insert an oven thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh meat.


4. Pour one can of chicken broth into the pan and some into the cavity of the bird to add moisture and flavor to the bird.


5. Brush the turkey with cooking oil, butter or spray. This will help keep the skin from drying out. The skin is essentially the seal over the breast meat that keeps the natural juices inside the bird.


6. Cover the turkey with foil. If you are cooking the smoked variety, keep the foil on for the entire cooking time. This will keep the smoky flavoring from escaping. If you are cooking the baked variety, cover the turkey after it has been cooking for an hour. This will also help keep the meat from drying out and the skin from burning.


7. Place the pan and turkey into the oven and cook the small turkeys, under ten pounds, for 90 minutes. For medium sized turkeys, under 16 pounds, cook for 2 hours. For large turkeys, up to 18 pounds, cook for 2 ½ hours.


8. Check the thermometer thirty minutes before the time is up to see if it has reached 140 F. If it has, remove it immediately.


9. Carve the turkey and serve as soon as possible.

Make Turkey Salad Quick And Easy

Use turkey leftovers for turkey salad.


Thanksgiving often means a lot of food, which means a lot of leftovers. If you've got leftover turkey and don't want to simply reheat it, a quick turkey salad might be in the offing. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Instructions


1. Tear or slice the turkey into small pieces. The turkey should be cold, as warm or hot turkey might cause the mayonnaise to spoil.


2. Add the turkey pieces into the food processor or blender. You also can chop the turkey by hand into very small pieces. Empty the turkey into the bowl.


3. Wash and dry the celery, then chop into pieces small enough to go into the processor. Pulse for 10 to 20 seconds. Add to the bowl.


4. Cut the onion into pieces small enough to be processed. Pulse for 10 to 20 seconds. Add to the bowl.


5. Mix in the mayonnaise and add salt and pepper to taste. Chill for about an hour. Serve on your choice of bread. You also can add lettuce and tomato.

Chemical Free Iron Removal

Water has many minerals floating within it, including iron. Removal of this iron in a chemical-free fashion requires aeration of the water and a specific filter to allow entrapment of the iron. Does this Spark an idea?


Function


Aeration involves infusing the water with air to allow the iron to oxidize into small, solid forms, essentially creating visible rust particles for collection. Those forms are then filtered through a media to trap the pieces, thereby cleaning the water without chemicals.


Types


Different filters are available for proper iron filtering, including chemical free iron filters, greensand filters, ozone filters and chlorination-filtration filters. These filters are specifically designed to have the durability to withstand the weight of the accumulated iron and powerful washing sequences to clear out the filter area.


Considerations


Water softening can be added to an aeration filter system for iron, but water softeners do employ chemicals to filter the water. Aeration systems can properly filter iron from water without the need for a water softener.

How Does a Weevil Infestation Start?


How the Weevil becomes attracted to food and cotton crops


Weevils are beetles that are attracted to many grain crops such as wheat, barley and oats that are grown in the southern United States. These grains are the weevils' main source of food supply, and they've also been known to infest and attack cotton crops in Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia. They eat the buds of the cotton plants, which then fail to produce cotton. The damaging effects of weevils are largely due to their ability to reproduce quickly and then spread throughout the crops in a matter of days. Female weevils deposit eggs in the beds of the plants and can lay as many as 200 eggs during their lifespan. In just 14 days, larvae hatch and begin to grow; within 21 days, the larvae grow and repeat the reproductive process. Weevils feast on the grain and then leave their eggs on the plant. When the grains are harvested, the eggs hatch. Undetected weevils then eat their way through grain that has been processed and even made its way to store shelves. The weevil will eat the grain and even eat its way out of a box of grain in which it was feeding off of. Weevil infestations can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage, making them extremely destructive to farmers.


How the weevil infests food supplies


Once grain and cotton crops are harvested, weevil larvae can still remain and lead to an infestation. Weevils can develop from the larvae in any warm climate or condition and can spread very rapidly. They may even lay eggs on a harvested crop from a different farm and begin to attack food supplies. If any weevils or weevil eggs are undetected at a food manufacturing plant , grocery stores and even people's homes can easily become infested in a matter of days. Weevils typically don't infest non-grained foods such as pastas and canned goods, but if uncontaminated boxes of crackers, whole grain products, cereals and even flour are left opened or not sealed tightly, weevils can use them as nourishment and infest an entire pantry or grocery store isle. A weevil that has laid eggs in a box of cereal for example will leave behind signs of brownish red larvae and a cob web-type material that will be in between the food and the wall of the box or bag. The weevil can eat its way into boxes and plastic bags making many other uncontaminated foods items susceptible to weevil infestation.

Treating a weevil infestation means throwing out all contaminated food and grains. It may seem drastic, but this will prevent the possibility of an egg or weevil going undetected and starting the cycle again. The surface area within 3 feet of any infestation should be cleaned with a mild bleach solution, and all potentially infested grains or old food should be thrown away. After the areas has been cleaned, fresh food can be introduced and then stored back into the area.

Instructions


1. Start the Garcinia cambogia tree in spring for warmth and sunshine. Prepare a heavy 20-gallon pot with drainage holes for long-term growing. These trees reach over 10 to 15 feet in height, even in pots.


2. Mix your own potting soil with 1 part garden or potting soil to 1 part organic compost. These trees hail from rainforests and require the rich, crumbly and moist foundation of that environment. Lay 2 inches of gravel in the bottom of the pot, then fill the pot two-thirds full of potting mixture. Don't use soil from the garden, as it may bring weeds and disease into the pot.


3. Set the Garcinia cambogia tree's roots on the soil and pack more potting mixture over and around them. Plant the tree up to its crown and leave at least 3 inches of space between the soil surface and the top of the pot.


4. Put the tree in a site with full, bright sun and temperatures of 70 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. These trees prefer hot, humid weather. Water the tree with 3 to 4 inches of water every week and spray the tree with water at every watering to maintain good humidity. Keep the tree outdoors during the height of summer but move it into the protection of the house well before any frost occurs.

Cooking Schools in China


China has no shortage of cooking schools. Away from the major metropolises, instruction may be in Chinese only, but five schools of culinary note have opened their doors in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Hubei, Shanghai and Beijing. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Hong Kong


English speakers will appreciate the accommodations of Hong Kong cooking schools. One cooking school that offers instruction in English is Martha Sherpa's, near the Mongkok MTR station. Martha Sherpa's Cooking School opens at 10 every morning and holds classes until 10 at night. Classes teach students whip up restaurant-style Chinese and Thai food, including wok and barbecue dishes, dim sum and desserts.


Other Hong Kong cooking schools include Chopsticks Cooking Centre, the Home Management Centre and the Peninsula Academy Culinary Experience.


Guangzhou


Located northwest of Hong Kong, the Guangzhou New Oriental Cooking School is among the top in the region. Boasting modern, stainless steel cooking facilities, the school tailors its programs to the needs of students. Students may take one- or two-year programs and focus their studies on Canton cuisine, brine and roasted dishes, or pastries.


Hubei


In central China, the Hubei No.1 Cooking School is just that. A training ground for head cooks and culinary specialists, this school teaches all four of the "big cuisines"--the cuisines of Canton, Hubei, Hunan and Sichuan. Students learn the dishes that made these cuisines famous as well as other pastries, brines and barbecue.


Shanghai


In Shanghai, Flying Chef runs a highly individualized cooking school. Once scheduled, Chef Li will bring all the needed ingredients and utensils to a student's home, teach his selected recipes, and then clean the kitchen afterward. Classes last for three hours and can accommodate up to four students. Although Mr. Li doesn't speak English, students will receive English translations of his recipes.


Beijing


Beijing's Conrad Hilton spins the typical cooking school experience. Dubbed Cooking for the Clueless, the school holds classes every six or eight weeks and caters to aspiring, but yet unskilled, chefs. Under the tutelage of David Chang, students take classes such as "dim sum for the dumb dumb" as they plan and serve a three-course menu.
